The 180 quart stainless steel pot pot is a great buy for the money, January 13, 2016

The 180 quart stainless steel pot pot is a great buy for the money, I can finally get back to brewing a barrel of beer per batch with absolutely no worry of a boil over. The pot gets 5 Stars for the money.

I’ve rated this at 3 stars because the burner and the stand need some modifications for use with the 180 quart pot.

1. The burner that comes with the stand is a 6″ two row low pressure propane burner (30,000 BTU’s). Unless you want to take all day waiting for that tiny burner to boil 40 gallons, the 180 quart pot really needs a 10″ high pressure propane burner (100,000 BTU’s).
The good news is that the burner stand’s burner ring is big enough to hold a 10″ burner, but it will require some fitting.

2. Additionally the stand is about 19″ square and the 180 quart pot is about 24″ in diameter. With the design of the stand, the direct fire contact with the bottom of the pot is channeled into a cross pattern 19″ from tip to tip that is about 4″ wide. When I get the time I will weld some 1/2″ square bar stock around the outer edge of the stand to raise the bottom of the pot off the top of the stand and get nearly 360 degrees of direct fire contact to the bottom of the pot.

Despite the need for modification, the burner & stand are still a great buy.

The pot alone is $287.47 with shipping. The pot with the burner stand is $325.47 with shipping. The difference is $38.

The cost of the parts included in the stand exceeds $38. Alone a 6″ burner cost $15. Alone a the pressure regulator costs $15. Which leaves $8 for the stand. There’s way more than $8 worth of steel and labor in the stand.

HUGE, but lacking (That’s what she said), November 29, 2014
My parents got me this for my birthday. This pot is HUGE! Which is great. It’ll brew about one barrel (31.5 gallons) at a time. I have yet to break it in, but let me explain my challenges. There’s no false bottom with this pot, one has to make his own. There’s no spigot with which to transfer wort. There’s no thermometer. The upside is that you can get a pot about 1/4 the size for the same price, and you can make all the modifications to this pot for even less. So I realize the previous sentence may have been worded awkwardly, but to break it down: You will not find a brew kettle this large for anywhere near as cheap as this. Their smaller pots are a hell of a deal too. I recommend this if you’re on a budget.

This review is from: Concord Home Brew Stainless Steel Kettle with Single Burner Stand Set (50 Quart)
This is a good product but… the burner kept blowing itself out the first time I used it. I discovered that the air intake was WAY to big. When I covered part of the air intake it started burning with a beautiful blue flame. The air intake on the burner needs a new design. I used some foil between the rotating part of the adjust and the iron part to close off most of one of the intake holes. The pot is perfect for 5 – 7 gallon batches and prevents boil over since it is bigger than my previous pot.
