Great for Mead!, March 3, 2014

Verified Purchase(What’s this?)

I have been doing a bit of home brewing over the past couple of years and purchased this for that purpose. I’ve been using it to bottle mead and had absolutely no issues. The quality is above average. Would recommend, but please note that these are very large and will not fit in a typical wine rack.

Useful and decorative, April 26, 2013

I use these for bottling my home-brew wine. These are thick glass, seem very well made and the color is real blue glass, not a painted coating. These hold about 1 liter.
You’ll receive the wired snap caps with your order. To put them on, look for the two dimples at the top of the bottle. Place one pin and while using your thumb, press the second pin into place. It doesn’t take very much pressure to apply the snap caps. I find these to be a real value and the delivery was sooner than expected. They were packaged as a box inside a padded box.

Wonderful Mother’s Day present for myself (and thanks, Mike!), May 14, 2014

I have a special place in my heart for blue glass, so when these bottles arrived, I swooned. (Well, I guess nobody really swoons these days—that’s so two centuries ago, you know—but let’s just say it was love at first sight.) The bottles are heavy and beautiful and a delight to hold and look at. I plan to use them to bottle up water kefir (which can get really fizzy) and kombucha vinegar.

Another reviewer said it’s hard to see the liquid when you fill these bottles because they are such a dark blue, but I set them on the counter beside the sink, and the over-sink light showed the fill line through the glass pretty clearly. So this will not be much of an issue for me; in fact, I like that the light won’t get to the contents as easily.

But I was clueless about how to put those bale-type caps onto the bottles. So I emailed Home Brew Ohio and got a quick response from Mike, who referred me to youtube to the video he’s made on how to put on the caps. (When you go to youtube, search for ZvGTGt5uNxI and it’ll take you right to it.)

And then I thought, hmm, I’m going to want some drilled bungs with airlocks to fit a few of these bottles…maybe they carry those, too. I emailed Mike again to ask if the Drilled Rubber Stopper #2 (Set of 3) they carry would fit these. He answered me right back and said he’d just tried one, and it fit perfectly. So not only am I majorly thrilled with the bottles, I’m also majorly thrilled with the customer service I received. I plan to send Home Brew Ohio as much business as I can.
