Star San is a self-foaming acid sanitizer ideal for brewing, dairy and other food and beverage equipment. It is an extremely effective bactericide and fungicide and is not affected by excessive organic soils. Star San also reduces water spotting and can be used without rinsing under the proper concentrations. STAR SAN is a blend of phosphoric acid and dodecylbenzenesulfonic acid. This synergistic blend provides a unique killing system that is unaffected by excessive organic soils. STAR SAN is also a self-foaming sanitizer. I use this to keep my kegerator, beer and Soda making equipment sanitary.
Use Star-San on plastic
Use IO-Star on metal
I have found other uses around my kitchen
refrigerator, meat slicer, food processor, mixer, can opener etc. I can wash most of the parts in the sink but it is hard to get into all the nooks and crannies and be sure its really clean.
I use on mason canning jars used to store left overs and a food saver jar sealer to vacuum seal them.
I mix very small amounts and always keep on hand in spray bottles in my kegerator cabinet.
It only stays viable for a short time about a week or less so I only mix a small amount at a time.

UPDATE: still love this stuff use a lot of it on almost everything in my kitchen.
Spray and wipe down after preparing or handling any high risk raw foods like chicken or raw meat to prevent cross contamination it is not a substitute for good old soap and hot water just an added precaution.
A better choice then using bleach or those popup wipes.
Star-San does not require rinsing like the residue bleach solutions or popup wipes can leave.
Added bonus if you have any small cuts or scratches on your hands this will help you find them.

I have used 3 or 4 different sanitizers since I started home brewing and can say that star san is by far the best sanitizer out there. I had a small bottle of iodophor and used it a couple of times but it’s terrible when you compare it to star san. Iodophor has a really off putting smell when you use it where as star san doesn’t have much of a smell at all and there’s no fear of under diluting and staining plastics.

I love it so much that this was my second 32oz bottle and they really do last for a VERY long time.

Cleanliness and sanitizing are two of the most important elements in making good beer and StarSan makes the second of those things about as easy as it gets. I keep a spray bottle on hand around my brewing rig and fermenters at all times. On brew day I mix up a few gallons to sanitize my carboy and pour some of that into a smaller container to soak all the other bits and bobs that will come into contact with the chilled wort. After 30-40 batches of brew I’ve never had any problems with infected, soured beer.
